One of the really cool things about living in NM is that it is filled compulsive artists, which could be one reason it's nickname is "Land of Enchantment". There are small towns all around the state each that seem to have different specialties of art. Some it's canvas painting, others it's buildings, and still others are jewelry artists. There is some of all of them in these towns, but usually one form stands out.
IN Silver City, where I live at the foothills of the Gila (Gila National Forest and Wilderness) in SW NM, there are metal and steel artworks everywhere it seem, some are quite large scattered around town in peoples yards. This one of Our Lady of Guadalupe is about eight feet tall, or about average size for them. Not far from where I live some people have a huge iron sculpture of a T - Rex with a large rag doll in it's teeth. Always makes me smile to drive by it.
From our local paper, The Silver Sun-News
LOVE that sculpture. LOVE.

I keep looking at that sculpture. It's great. The way fabric was made from what looks like sheet metal is a thing of beauty. I'm in awe.
ReplyDeleteSIA. thanks. Do you want to be added on as a contributor to this blog? No pressure and you can post when you feel like it about anything, politics of not. If so, send me an email with a google email address if you have one. And I will add you as a co blogger here.
ReplyDeleteHi General, that is very nice of you, thank you. I'll see if I can come up with anything one of these days. I don't consider myself to have sharp analytical skills or particularly original ideas though (except maybe in my professional arena). I usually just ramble on incoherently and therefore doubt I'd have much to offer. The email is screaminginatlanta@gmail.com. I like the graphics and layout of your blog, it looks great. I need to figure out why I couldn't view the pic of Charlie you posted on Flickr!
